Our care

Staff
Lisaard House is staffed with a team of registered nurses and personal support workers who care for residents twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. The onsite team is further supported by a visiting team of four family physicians with expertise in palliative care; these physicians participate in two month at a time rotations, visiting the hospice twice a week and providing 24 hour coverage seven days a week.

Pharmacy Support
Preston Medical Pharmacy supplies the residents of Lisaard House with their prescription needs and medical supplies.

Oxygen Supplier
Vital Aire supplies the residents of Lisaard House with their oxygen needs. The respiratory therapists at Vital Aire assist in transitioning new residents who receive their oxygen from another supplier.

Volunteers

Lisaard House is supported by two groups of volunteers:

  1. One group is those volunteers who wish to support residents during their final days. These volunteers are from Hospice of Waterloo Region. Hospice of Waterloo Region provides their training, ongoing education and support and then schedules the volunteers for shifts at Lisaard House.
  2. The second group of volunteers provides Lisaard House with clerical, maintenance and general labor support, but does not directly support the residents. Both groups of volunteers play a valuable role at Lisaard House; their support is vital and integral to the ongoing operation of the hospice and is greatly appreciated.

Therapies/Services

Music Therapy: A registered music therapist visits the hospice once per week providing residents the opportunity to express themselves through either active or passive participation in music.

Other therapies: Therapies such as massage, therapeutic touch, reflexology, etc. are not currently offered at Lisaard House. However, if a resident is interested in receiving any of these therapies, families are welcome to arrange these services directly.

Hair Dressing/Manicure/Pedicure: These services are available upon request on a weekly basis free of charge.

Social Worker: The Waterloo Wellington Community Care Access Centre provides a social worker to our residents upon request.

Pastoral care: Lisaard House does not have a chaplin on site. Residents may invite their own spiritual advisor to visit them at the house. If a resident wishes to see a spiritual advisor but does not have one, Lisaard House can provide a list of spiritual advisors who have indicated their availability to residents upon request.

Family Time: This is a time set aside on the first and third Thursday of each month for families or friends who have lost a loved one at Lisaard House to come together to share thoughts over coffee of their experiences during and following the time of their loss. These sessions are conducted by a social worker with training in bereavement care.
